This apple cider vinegar honey shot is a tasty, super-powerful elixir that can aid digestion, help with allergies, ward off sickness, rev up metabolism and more. With just a handful of simple ingredients, you’ll love making this tonic a part of your wellness routine!
Please Note: Apple cider vinegar can have interactions with certain medications, including diuretics and insulin. Please consult with a medical professional before consuming this mixture if you are taking any prescription medications.
Before You Get Started
- If you can, use raw, local honey in your apple cider vinegar shot! Raw honey is less processed, so it retains more nutrients, making it a great source of antioxidants and antibacterial & antifungal properties. Local honey is made by local bees using local pollen – which means it can help lessen your body’s response to local allergens. Plus you’re supporting local bee farmers!
- Don’t just grab any old apple cider vinegar for your ACVH elixir. Ideally you want to use an apple cider vinegar that contains The Mother. You’ll find “The Mother” in ACV that’s raw and unfiltered – look for opaque, cloudy strands floating in the liquid. That substance is made up of yeast and probiotics, and it’s believed to be good for gut health and the immune system. Consuming it is safe, but if it’s too unappealing, you can opt for motherless ACV instead.
How to Make This Recipe
See recipe card below for full list of measurements, ingredients, and instructions.
Mix Your Base.
Whisk the warm – NOT boiling – water and honey together until they’re fully combined.
Add the rest.
Add apple cider vinegar (preferably with “the Mother”!) and cinnamon to the thinned honey and whisk everything together.
If the prepared shot is too thick for your liking, add up to 3 additional tablespoons of warm water. Whisk well!
What I Love About This Recipe
- Along with my Immune System Booster Shot Recipe, this apple cider vinegar and honey elixir is one of my go-to, ingredients-always-on-hand recipes whenever the seasons change. That’s super easy to do, of course, because you only need 3 ingredients (plus a little water).
- Seriously, though. The first sniffle, I whip one of these bad boys up and let it work its magic. Maybe it’s a placebo effect, but after a day or two with one of these potions, I’m feeling good as new! Now, don’t get me wrong – this is not a replacement for medical care, medication, or just taking care of yourself in general. I am not a medical professional, nor do I pretend to be one on the internet… or anywhere else.
- Even without the potential health benefits, a shot made with apple cider vinegar, honey, and cinnamon just tastes really good. The warm water makes the whole drink warm, which is especially nice if you’ve got a sore throat or it’s just a chilly morning.
Recipe Variations
- ACVH Toddy: If you want a boozy apple cider vinegar honey shot, add 1-2 tablespoons of whiskey or bourbon and a dash of lemon juice.
Making changes to a recipe can result in recipe failure. Any substitutions or variations listed are simple changes that I believe will work in this recipe, but results are not guaranteed.

Frequently Asked Questions
It tastes best (and is most effective) when it’s consumed immediately after preparation, but you can make it in advance. Refrigerate the shot in an airtight container and consume within 5 days of preparation. Stir or shake the mixture well before consuming.
I don’t recommend more than one of these shots per day. I also don’t recommend consuming them daily for an extended amount of time. Consuming large amounts of apple cider vinegar can lead to nausea, diarrhea, and heartburn, and ACV can interact with some medications. Please consult a medical professional if you have any concerns or if your symptoms persist.

I’ve seen other recipes that require 1 tsp of raw honey to 1 tbsp of acv….rather than 1 TBS of honey…..do you add more for taste or can we use less than that?
You’re welcome to adjust the recipe to fit your needs and preferences. We prefer the flavor using 1 tablespoon honey, plus you get more of the benefits (antioxidants, throat soothing, etc.) from 1 tablespoon honey than you would using only 1 teaspoon.
how does this recipe compares with the shots purchased at the store? And are the store purchased shelf shots as good? Your shots should be consumed within 5 days after being made while store bought has a year shelf life. What is you opinion on this. Thank you
Flavor is a matter of personal preference, but as far as shelf life, ours should be consumed within 5 days for maximum effectiveness and freshness. If a store-bought version can be shelf-stable for a year, it likely has added preservatives that make that possible. The packaging also contributes to a longer shelf-life. Our recipe isn’t being bottled and sealed after preparation to the extent that a mass-produced version is, which cuts the shelf-life down considerably.
I’ve never drank ACV but, I have heard so many good things about it. I happen to come across your site and followed your directions and drank it like a shot this morning. It was actually not as bad as I thought it was going to be. My question is how many times a day would you recommend I take these “shots”? lol
Glad you enjoyed it! We recommend only 1 per day.
Excellent recipe. Read Dr Jarvis Folk Remedies. Before his time. My entire family drinks cider vinegar every morning. Including the dogs. We are all over the top healthy!
Yes, we are firm believers in the benefits of ACV! So glad you enjoyed this recipe!
It was really good, the honey & cinnamon made it much better then just the plain apple cider vinegar alone
So glad you enjoyed it! 🙂
When do you take for apple cider vinegar and honey in the morning or at night before bed
Really any time of day you prefer! We recommend in the morning since there is sugar in it.
Can this be made in a larger quantity then stored somehow? I was thinking like a half gallon plastic jug. Will it separate? It would make it a quick daily dose.
It will likely separate as the honey chills and becomes more solidified. While this recipe is best when consumed immediately, it can be made in advance and kept up to 5 days. Refrigerate in an airtight container and shake or stir well before drinking.
Awesome. I will definitely try it
Please do! And let us know what you think! 🙂
What is “The Mother”? I didnt see what that was?
The “the Mother” is a combination of the yeast and bacteria floating around, which gives it its benefits. You’ll see a stringy substance in the liquid with the mother!
If you buy apple cider vinegar, it will say WITH THE MOTHER right on the bottle. I love Bragg’s ACV.
Hej! Is there a purpose for specifically warm water or can I use cold water or even seltzer water? I tried it exactly how it is and tasted so incredible surprisingly to me too! To me it tasted just like an apple cider, so I took another one haha!<3333
Thanks!
The warm water is helpful with dissolving the honey. 🙂
