What Makes This Recipe So Good

  • It’s surprisingly simple to make! Prep the filling, then the batter, and bake – that’s pretty much it. Aside from the cherries, this recipe is made using items you probably already have in your pantry.
  • It’s sweet, but not too sweet. Tart cherries need a bit of sugar to balance out their sour flavor. This cherry cobbler recipe contains just the right amount of sugar to bring this dessert together without overpowering that incredible cherry taste!
  • It’s the perfect addition to any potluck or celebration! This cherry cobbler is best enjoyed in the spring or summer when cherries are in season. Make this crowd-pleasing recipe for your next warm-weather celebration.

Key Ingredients

Cherries – I highly recommend purchasing a cherry pitter if you plan on removing the pits from the cherries yourself. Otherwise, make a small slice down one side of each cherry and remove the pit that way. I must warn you, de-pitting cherries can be a messy task, and cherry juice will stain. Don’t wear anything you like while making this cherry cobbler (I learned this lesson the hard way!).

Sugar – Sugar is necessary to balance out that tart cherry flavor. You can use either white, cane sugar, or even granular swerve for a sugar-free option in this recipe.

Lemon Juice – A little acidity brings out that fresh fruit flavor! I love adding at least a little bit of lemon juice to any fruit dessert recipe, it does an incredible job at rounding out the flavors. If you don’t have lemon juice, you can leave it out.

Butter – Cobbler wouldn’t exist without butter. You could say that cherries are the star of this show, but I’d argue that it’s actually the butter. You’ll start by melting butter in your baking dish before layering the rest of the ingredients on top. By not mixing the butter into the cobbler, we create a wonderful swirl of butter throughout the entire cherry cobbler – YUM!

Chef’s Tips

  • Mix the cherry filling frequently to avoid burning. The combination of cherries and sugar can burn pretty easily if left alone at a high temperature.
  • You don’t need to wait for your oven to come to temperature before melting the butter. Simply add the baking dish with the butter into your preheating oven. Once the butter has completely melted, remove it from the oven and continue with the recipe!
  • Store your cherry cobbler in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. When ready to eat, reheat it in a 350° Fahrenheit oven for 5-10 minutes or until warm throughout.
