This ricotta lemon honey dip is the 5-minute appetizer you’ll make on repeat all spring and summer long. Creamy whipped ricotta gets brightened with fresh lemon zest, drizzled with golden honey, and finished with a pinch of flaky salt and a glug of good olive oil. Serve it with toasted baguette slices at your next cookout, baby shower, Mother’s Day brunch, or backyard party, and watch it disappear before you’ve even sat down!!

See recipe card below for full list of measurements, ingredients, and instructions.
Why This Recipe is So Good
- This lemony-creamy ricotta dip is literally ready in 5 minutes with zero cooking required. This is the appetizer that saves the day when you realize guests are arriving in 10 minutes and you haven’t thought about snacks yet — been there, done that.
- Creamy, mild ricotta is the perfect canvas for bright lemon zest and floral honey. They balance each other beautifully (not too sweet, not too tangy), and that pinch of flaky salt at the end ties everything together in the most satisfying, delicious way.
- This dish works for ANY occasion. Baby showers, Mother’s Day brunches, summer cookouts, backyard BBQs, holiday parties — you name it! It looks gorgeous, it tastes incredible, and it appeals to just about everyone.
- The ingredients are simple and not overly expensive. No shortcuts, no fillers — just real food that tastes exactly as good as it looks.
What You Need to Know Before You Start
- Always use whole milk ricotta — this is non-negotiable, sorry friends! Part-skim ricotta has less fat and more water, which means a thinner, less luxurious dip that won’t whip up nearly as well. If your ricotta seems watery right out of the container, place it in a fine mesh strainer over a bowl and let it drain for 10-15 minutes before mixing.Â
- Ricotta can look smooth after just a few seconds of mixing, but the magic happens when you keep going. Beat it for a full 60 to 90 seconds with a hand mixer, or whisk vigorously for the same amount of time, until it turns light, airy, and almost fluffy. Scrape down the sides of the bowl halfway through so everything incorporates evenly.
- To make your life easier, the whipped ricotta base can be made up to 24 hours in advance and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. When you’re ready to serve, let it sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes, so it softens slightly and feels creamy rather than stiff.
- Before drizzling the honey, use the back of a spoon to make a gentle swirl or shallow well in the surface of the ricotta. The honey pools right into it and creates that gorgeous, glossy finish that makes everyone stop and stare before they start dipping. Warm the honey in the microwave for just 5-10 seconds first; it pours more easily and distributes more evenly across the top.
Recipe Variations
Make it Spicy: Swap the regular honey for hot honey, or finish with a pinch of red pepper flakes for a sweet-heat combination that’s seriously addictive.
Add Crunch: Toss in some chopped pistachios or toasted pine nuts scattered over the top, which adds a lovely textural contrast to the creamy ricotta.
Go Herby: Fresh thyme leaves or a small handful of thinly sliced fresh basil make beautiful, flavorful garnishes that take this from simple to stunning.
Make it a Full Board: Set the dip in the center of a large board and surround it with toasted baguette slices, crackers, apple slices, strawberries, and a few small bunches of grapes. It becomes the anchor of a gorgeous spread with almost zero extra effort.

Frequently Asked Questions
For sure, just whip the ricotta base and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Add the olive oil, honey, and garnishes right before serving. Let it sit at room temperature for 10 minutes before serving so it softens and the flavor comes through.
Store any leftover dip (without garnishes) in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 to 4 days. Give it a quick stir before serving again. Do not freeze — freezing will break down the texture of the ricotta.
Toasted baguette slices, pita chips, warm pita, butter crackers, apple slices, strawberries, and cucumber rounds all work beautifully. It’s also incredible on crostini as an individual bite-sized appetizer.
You can, but the result will be thinner and less creamy (and do you really want to go there?). Whole milk ricotta is strongly recommended for the best texture. If part-skim is all you have, add a tiny extra drizzle of olive oil to help it blend smoother.
It’s best served cool to slightly cool — not ice cold. Letting it sit at room temperature for 10 minutes before serving softens the texture and allows the flavors to come through more clearly.
