Before You Get Started

  • Sirloin steak works fine here, but I really love to use filet mignon for my garlic butter steak bites. Use whatever you like best and that fits in your budget!

How to Make This Recipe

See recipe card below for full list of measurements, ingredients, and instructions.

Prep the garlic butter.

Mix together softened butter, garlic, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until you’ve got a smooth mixture.

Prep the steak.

Slice your steak of choice into bite-sized pieces, then season them generously with salt and pepper.

Cheryl’s Tip: Make sure you’re slicing the steak against the grain. If you cute with the grain, you’ll end up with tough, chewy steak bites.

Brown the steak.

Heat oil in a large skillet, then add the seasoned steak bites. Stir the steak often and cook it until it’s browned on all sides. Since the pieces are fairly small, it should only take a few minutes to cook them through completely.

bRING IT ALL TOGETHER.

When the steak bites are browned, move them to a large bowl and set them aside. Add the prepped butter to the skillet and let it melt, then move the steak back to the skillet. Stir everything together for a few minutes, until the steak is fully coated in butter, then serve and enjoy!

What I Love About This Recipe

  • It’s juicy, tender, perfectly cooked morsels of steak smothered in a rich melted garlic-butter sauce. Need I say more?
  • Steak bites come together so quickly. They’re a great way to enjoy a full steak dinner any night of the week.
  • They’re a really versatile entrée! Serve the garlic butter steak bites with some potatoes and your favorite veggies (broccoli, asparagus, cauliflower, or mushrooms), or make them into a steak salad or loaded steak fries.
  • You can use sirloin, ribeye, strip steak, filet mignon, or tri-tip for your steak bites. Whatever you like and whatever’s within your budget. If you want to make dinner even easier, you can pick up pre-sliced steak bites or steak tips and save yourself some prep work!

Air fryer baked potatoes make a perfect hands-off side dish for these garlic butter steak bites!

Recipe Variations

  • Season The Meat: I like to keep my steak seasoning pretty simple, opting for just salt and pepper. You’re welcome to use your favorite steak seasoning instead, though!

  • salt
  • freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon avocado oil or other neutral-flavored oil

Serving Suggestions (All Optional)

  • ½ tablespoon finely chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

For the Garlic Butter

  • Add ½ cup unsalted butter, ½ tablespoon minced fresh garlic, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ¼ teaspoon salt, and freshly ground black pepper to medium mixing bowl. Stir ingredients together until fully incorporated. Set aside.

For the Steak

  • Place 2 pounds steak of choice on cutting board. Slice steak into bite-sized pieces, making sure to cut meat against grain.
  • Season pieces of steak heavily on all sides with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Set steak aside.
  • Place large skillet on stovetop over medium-high heat. When pan is warm, add 1 tablespoon avocado oil to skillet and continue heating pan until oil is hot and shimmery.

  • Transfer browned steak to large bowl and set aside. Remove skillet from heat and let cool 1 to 2 minutes.
  • When skillet has cooled slightly, add prepared garlic butter to pan and return skillet to heat. Let butter melt completely.
  • Return steak to skillet. Cook steak 1 to 2 minutes, stirring often to coat steak in melted butter.
  • When steak is fully coated in melted butter, remove skillet from heat. Divide steak into desired servings. Sprinkle ½ tablespoon finely chopped fresh parsley over steak to garnish, then serve steak warm with preferred sides.
  • Steak: Sirloin works fine here, and filet mignon is also an excellent choice.
  • To Slice Steak: Locate parallel lines of muscle fibers running through meat. Position knife perpendicular to muscle fibers and slice steak into bite-sized pieces.
