This dairy-free mint shake tastes so much like the famous Shamrock Shake, it’s hard to believe you didn’t just leave the drive thru. It’s creamy, cool, and sweet, but this St. Patrick’s Day treat is made with nutritious ingredients that also make it vegan and paleo.
☘️ What Makes This Recipe So Good
- This easy homemade Shamrock Shake copycat is rich and minty, but made without any ice cream, heavy cream, or other dairy ingredients. Instead, the creaminess comes from a combination of thick coconut milk blended with a little perfectly ripe avocado and fresh banana. Nutritious, whole-food ingredients you’ll feel good about eating.
- There’s no cooking, freezing, or even chilling required, so you’ll have a decadent mint shake ready to enjoy in just a few minutes. Even better, this whole recipe uses less than 10 ingredients – and that includes the ice.
- The shake itself is naturally dairy free, vegan, paleo, and gluten free. If you want to add any toppings, like cherries or whipped cream, just be sure the toppings you use fit your dietary needs!
👩🏼🍳 Chef’s Tips
- Use mint extract, not peppermint extract. Mint extract can be a little tricky to find, so you can use peppermint in a pinch, but it gives a slightly different flavor.
- We used an easy homemade sanding sugar on top of our mint shakes. If you want to make your own, you’ll need ¼ cup granulated sugar (or sugar alternative), a plastic sandwich bag, and food coloring. Add the sugar and 1-2 drops food coloring to the bag. Massage the color into the sugar, adding more as needed until you’ve got the perfect shade. If the sugar starts to clump, sprinkle a little cornstarch into the bag and massage it into the sugar and food color.

- 1 13.5-ounce can coconut milk
