This deliciously flavorful Asian slaw recipe has been in my family for decades! Perfectly seasoned and just a touch sweet, it’s easy to make with roasted ramen noodles, slivered almonds, and sesame seeds, with mandarin oranges for a juicy touch. My mom has been making this since I was a kid, and now I’m sharing the recipe with you!

How to Make This Recipe

See recipe card below for full list of measurements, ingredients, and instructions.

tOAST THE MIX-INS

Break up the dry noodles from a packet of ramen and spread them out on a baking sheet with sesame seeds and slivered almonds. Toast everything 10 minutes.

Make the Dressing

Whisk together the dressing ingredients until they’re fully combined, then refrigerate the dressing until you’re ready to serve the slaw.

Cheryl’s Tip: If you have time, make the dressing at least 30 minutes before you serve the slaw. That gives the ingredients plenty of time to meld together, making the flavor richer!

Toss and Serve

Add the slaw mix, green onions, mandarin oranges, and toasted ingredients to your serving bowl and toss the ingredients together until they’re blended well. Pour the chilled dressing over the slaw and toss until all the ingredients are coated. Serve immediately for maximum crunch!

What I Love About This Recipe

  • This version of Asian coleslaw has been in my family for literal decades. My mom made it when I was a kid, and I’ve continued that tradition with my own little ones. It’s a huge hit in my house!
  • My no-mayo slaw recipe is full of bright, vibrant, and delicious flavors. Mandarin oranges add a juicy texture and burst of citrus, and the toasted ramen noodles and slivered almonds make this Asian slaw a little crunchy.
  • It’s a great side dish for a number of Asian-inspired entrées. Instant Pot chicken teriyaki, Hunan beef, shrimp tempura, Mandarin chicken – this slaw makes a fab alternative for rice or hibachi veggies.

Recipe Variations

  • Homemade Slaw Mix: Have a head of cabbage in the back of fridge that’s dangerously near the end of its shelf life? Skip the pre-bagged slaw mix and use it instead! Shredding your own cabbage is super easy. Use a mix of green and purple for a more-colorful coleslaw!
