Total: 5 minutes
Yield:1 margarita

Equipment

  • small shallow bowl or small plate
  • serving glass
  • Cocktail shaker

Ingredients

For the Virgin Margarita

  • 1 ½ ounces freshly squeezed lime juice
  • ½ ounce orange juice
  • ¼ ounce agave nectar see Notes
  • 1 ½ ounces sparkling water or 1 ½ ounces zero-proof tequila
  • ½ ounce zero-proof tequila like Ritual, optional
  • ice as desired

Serving Suggestions (All Optional)

  • course salt or sugar, or tajin; to rim glass
  • lime wedge to rim glass
  • ice as desired
  • lime coin or lime wedge, to garnish

Instructions

To Rim Glass (Optional)

  • Add salt, sugar, or tajin to shallow bowl or plate.
  • Cut small slit across center of lime wedge. Fit slit in lime wedge on rim of glass, then run lime wedge around rim, wetting glass. Remove lime wedge and discard.
  • Invert glass and dip wet edge directly into shallow bowl. Twist, tilt, or roll glass to coat rim completely in salt, sugar, or tajin.
  • Set glass upright and add ice as desired.

For the Virgin Margarita

  • Add 1 ½ ounces freshly squeezed lime juice, ½ ounce orange juice, ¼ ounce agave nectar, 1 ½ ounces sparkling water, and ½ ounce zero-proof tequila (optional) to cocktail shaker. Add ice as desired then close shaker and shake well.
  • Strain shaken margarita into prepared glass and discard ice from shaker. Garnish margarita with lime coin or lime wedge and serve.

Notes

  • Agave Nectar: Use a generous ¼ ounce - meaning slightly more than ¼ ounce, but as much as ½ ounce. You can also use simple syrup, honey, or maple syrup if you don't have agave nectar.
  • Pitcher Drinks: This recipe is written to yield one prepared virgin margarita. To scale this up for a pitcher of margaritas, use the servings adjustor at the top of the recipe card to increase the number of margaritas as desired. Instead of using a cocktail shaker, add all margarita ingredients to a pitcher and stir well until fully combined.
