URGENT UPDATE! The First Lady made a massively important speech tonight at the DNC.. but you’ll hear all about that later. While you digest, let’s talk about clothes.
Tuesday night, I walked in from class just in time to catch the First Lady’s speech at the Democratic National Convention. I don’t intend to bring politics into the Stylist Quo, despite the laundry list of other categories entertain, but I’ll say this from a nonpartisan stand:
Michelle Obama is killer. Michelle Obama’s dress at the DNC? Also pretty killer.
That doesn’t make this a liberal blog, no. I’ll say it outright: Ann Romney maintains a better Pinterest. But, call me crazy, if you like, Michelle’s the supreme stylist.
While not a huge fan of the A-line skirt, the bright pink brocade-style dress brightened her look and complemented her skin tone remarkably well. The intricate Eastern-inspired curves of the design at the bottom of the skirt are feminine and just faintly reminiscent of Arabic art. Knowing she’d be in a medium close-up frame the majority of the night, picking a line that flattered her upper body and showed off her toned arms was key. The waist complemented her body type, pinning in her waist and showing off the curve of her hips. It sounds like I’m trying to seduce her, but I assure you, it’s not like that. We’re just friends.
I give the Tracy Reese dress an A.
There will be plenty of time to analyze the scorn of women, the politics of copycat and DIY, and how to master the art of doing everything, but for now, let’s curl up next to a blog and read about the First Lady’s dress.
What did you think of Michelle’s dress? The color? The A-line? Who rocked their National Convention better, Michelle or Ann, in her tomato red Oscar de la Renta?
I shamelessly borrowed all photos from the Cubicle Chick, who runs an awesome and innovative blog. Check it out!0
