Life Lately: Holidays, Beaches

Surprise! Another disappearance. I’ve become a regular Houdini on you guys, no? But all of that lately was centered around a big holiday season and subsequent jet off to one of our favorite vacationing spots, Playa del Carmen in Mexico! Because I’m self-employed, there’s no real such thing as actual vacation, so I was working double-time the couple weeks before Christmas, hence the tacit turn to 40 Aprons in general.
I wanted to share some of my favorite moments from the last month, both with family during our holidays and with O on vaycay. I hope you enjoy this little peek into our lives.. and of course, if you know me at all, you’ll know brevity is not my strong suit, and that carries over to the visual realm, too. You’ve been warned..
O and I had Christmas Eve at our house and he decided to make my truffle mac and cheese.
He did an awesome job, but I had to document the whole experience, of course..
Our tree always seems a little less than bushy, but we covered it in basketballs and footballs! Dorky.
There were cupcakes.
This is the least weird of my sister’s photos… trust me.
Mags tried to hang..
But she was a bit tuckered out.
I was there, too.
Grandma made Mags Ina Garten’s homemade dog bones for Christmas.. and Mags was pretty happy about that.
Mags is like sewwwwwww ready to open presents!
My sister is not impressed with.. whatever was going on. Pretty sure it was my mom opening the very gift my sister got her. Who knows. There were a lot of mimosas being had.
I really couldn’t not post this picture.. especially with my sister’s boyfriend photobombing it and all!
I love this photo of my cousins (cousin and.. second-cousin?). How hysterical is her face?!
and then we went to Playa del Carmen, where I took a ton of photos of my dearest, O..
We ate at Mi Pueblo, where we’ve been going for a few years. We have such amazing memories there from our first trip, and their breakfasts are out of this world!
I made O pose for approximately 400 pour shots.
Left: enfrijoladas. Right: some.. egg thing with salsas roja y verde..
Shtupid good
See? 400!
Headed to Cozumel for some erm, snorkeling maybe? Or just piña-colada drinking, turns out..
The view from the port at Playa. It’s.. kinda pretty there.
Just OK.
Escher is rolling over in his grave somewhere.. or at least rolling his eyes.
On the ferry to Cozymel, there was a band.. and they were pretty damn good! We sang along with our mumbled Spanish lyrics.. thank goodness I listen to the Latin station on Pandora so much
Then a bunch of kids started diving into the water right at sunset, almost like I asked them to. But I actually did not ask them to.. and was consequently paranoid they’d think I was some sort of perv with my long lens.
O LOVES piña coladas. Like.. they’re his signature drink. I think they taste like rummy sunscreen, but you know.. to each his own.
Back at the ranch.
I made O pose for a thousand photos.
And on that sassy note, I’ll leave you with four reasons why I love my new iPhone.

Welcome back! Your holiday looks so lovely! (Also… pour shots. WORTH THE 400 CLICKS.) 🙂
Amazing photos! I’m now dying for a vacation to an exotic beachy location! haha
I must say I enjoy peeking into your life 🙂
Glad you had a wonderful vacation & Happy New Year to you & your family, Cheryl.
P.S. My favourite photo would be one of your sister with her boyfriend in the background… hahaha
Happy New Year Cheryl! I’m glad you’ve had great holidays and vacation! Love Mexico! Pictures are stunning!
Thanks Mira! Happy new year to you too 🙂
Love the onslaught of photos! Because you know I like to be a nosey nancy! Looks like a fabulous couple weeks! Happy New Year!
I’m so nosey too! I just always think each photo is *so necessary* and I could never give it up.. I always wonder how other people do it! Glad at least someone else is nosey like me 🙂
Welcome Home Cheryl! So good to see your adventures and know you had a fabulous time in Mexico. Seems O is amiable to your photographing him all the time… a cooperative subject is always a good one. I got a good chuckle out of your family photos… and commentary. Lots of mimosas! LOL And dear sweet Mags… looks like my dear cousin canine Lily, a rescue. They could be related somehow?! Way to go on the 400! Fabulous capture! Looking forward to what’s next for 40 Aprons (nice new logo too!)! HNY Cheryl!
O is maybe not *amiable* to my photographing him at every turn–there are loads of really bizarre shots I have of him from testing shots–but he puts up with it at least 🙂 Yay rescue cousins! That’s too funny. Mags is randomly from Arkansas..
I am just a little bit jealous of your trip in the sun – it looks GORGEOUS and your photography is spectacular 🙂 You and your hubby are adorable btw!!!! Happy New Year!
Uh, I’m a bit jealous of your life abroad! Can we switch for like..a week? Thanks Ceara, happy new year to you too!
Great post! I love the photos and can'[t wait to go back. I am swearing off Mexican food for the rest of 2015! Pictures of Mags are hilarious.
I want Mexican tonight honey!
Can you just take me on your next vacay?! Is that sooooo much to ask?? Looks so amazing…like really really amazing. No wonder you two love Mexico! I’ve got to visit it. Beautiful pictures you photographer you!
Um, yes? Is that even a question? Duh! Thanks girl 🙂
I’ve been wondering where you’ve been!! Hai great to have you back. Mags is hilarious and adorable. O is a stud. The pictures of kids jumping off the dock could be printed in a magazine. Love everything!
Here I am! Man, how I wish I had a cake to pop out of when I said that. Thanks! They’re both definitely those things
