Now that you’re thoroughly educated about the upcoming year’s trends, let’s put a few of them into action, shall we?
A short backstory: A couple years ago I started a burlesque and vaudeville troupe and performed often. I absolutely loved the glamour and beautiful movement, but when I started grad school and began working on a tech startup, I was simply too busy to be actively involved. These days, I’m the Executive Director and adore my job behinds the scenes, rather than on the stage. Getting to sit in the audience might make me itch to get up and dance, but I love the view. Haven’t seen a burlesque or vaudeville show? They’re totally fun. Make one soon.
Because of the inherently sexy and dramatic nature of the event, I decided to go all out and pair my new “leather” corset with my split maxi—thigh-high slit and all. All black with a few gold statement pieces, and I tagged it “glamazon” on Instagram. I don’t think there’s any better way of putting it.
While we were waiting for the show to start, the photographer and I were trying to entertain ourselves. I hopped up on the stage, and we took some quick shots. Some tendencies simply cannot be tamed.
You can mix and match these pieces, for a more balanced look, but if you really want to make a bold statement, go as is! It was unapologetically fun.It helps if you don’t have short, sprinter legs. Candids are always ideal.
