How to Make Bacon Wrapped Chicken with Brown Sugar Crust – Step by Step

  • Preheat the oven to 425º.
  • Combine the garlic powder, paprika and salt in small bowl. Sprinkle the chicken breasts with the mixture on both the top and bottom.
  • Wrap each chicken breast in two slices of bacon, starting at the end of chicken breast and on the bottom.
  • When the breasts are wrapped, place them seam-side down in a 9×13” baking pan.
  • Bake the breasts in the preheated oven at 425 for 15 minutes.
  • After 15 minutes, evenly sprinkle brown sugar over the breasts and return to the oven to cook for about 5 minutes or until 157-159° internally.
  • Baste the breasts with drippings and then broil the breasts for 2-3 minutes. Do not overcook

Make this Chicken Recipe Whole30, Paleo, or Keto

This is an easy recipe to adapt for various diets, the variations are:

  • For Whole30, leave off the brown sugar altogether and make sure your bacon is Whole30-compliant.
  • For paleo, use coconut sugar in place of the brown sugar.
  • For keto, use Swerve Brown Sugar or leave off the brown sugar altogether.

An Easy Oven-Baked Chicken Recipe

This chicken recipe makes for a perfect weeknight meal with little prep time. By wrapping the breasts in bacon, the chicken stays wonderfully succulent and the brown sugar creates a perfectly crispy crust. Baked in the oven, this is a great last minute dinner with simple ingredients.

Top Tips for Making Bacon Wrapped Chicken

  • Use good quality organic chicken breasts that haven’t been raised on antibiotics for a healthier meal.
  • Sprinkle the bacon evenly over the top of the chicken for the best crust.
  • Carefully wrap the bacon around the chicken and keep the ends on the bottom.
  • Be careful not to overcook the chicken or it can become dry.

Bacon Wrapped Chicken with Brown Sugar Crust

Ingredients

  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 4  boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 slices bacon thinly sliced
  • ¼ cup brown sugar or coconut sugar, see Notes

Equipment

  • 9×13 baking dish

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 425° Fahrenheit.
  • Combine garlic powder, paprika and salt in small bowl. Sprinkle mixture on both sides of each chicken breast.
  • Wrap each chicken breast in two slices of bacon. Start one slice of bacon underneath one end of chicken breast and wrap toward other end. Continue with second slice where first slice ends.
  • Place wrapped chicken breasts in baking dish with ends of bacon strips underneath chicken to hold in place. Bake 15 minutes.
  • After 15 minutes, evenly sprinkle brown sugar over chicken breasts and return to oven. Cook another 5 minutes or until 157-159°F internally.
  • Baste chicken breasts with drippings. Place chicken under broiler and broil 2 to 3 minutes, being careful not to overcook.
  • Remove from oven and serve.

Notes

  • Make it Whole30: Omit the sugar completely and use Whole30-compliant bacon.
  • Make it Paleo: Use coconut sugar instead of brown sugar.
  • Make it Keto: Use Brown Swerve or omit the sugar completely.

    The recipe sounds fantastic, but under what circumstances are brown sugar or coconut sugar acceptable on the Whole30 Diet? You’ve got Whole30 posted all over the description and recipe, but 40Aprons shows both of the sugars you’ve listed as non-compliant.2 stars
