Killer Reads #3: Target Designer, Perfect Outfits, Girly Camera Straps, Avoiding Salmonella, Perfect DIY Manicures

This week’s Killer Reads are, of course, primarily inspired by New York Fashion Week (and a general dislike of salmonella) which just ended. I don’t know if I should be happy or sad. Sad, because, obviously, no more Twitter feeds inundated with beautiful pieces; no more Instagram of enviable bloggers at conferences; no more new collections to drool over at style.com. But happy? My eyes are beginning to ache from staring so intently at the computer screen all day long.

1. Target Launches the Shops – Hide Your Kids, Hide Your Wife

Target’s been featuring designers and boutiques for a while now, but it’s always exciting to rifle through the latest batch. I’m particularly pleased by this collection by Kirna Zabête, as it offers several pieces that will be able to easily take you into fall and then on into spring, like the leather pants and floral jacket. Make sure you come back to the Stylist Quo on Tuesday for a post on all of the key pieces you’ll need to do just this–make your trendy pieces span two seasons!

2. Who I Want to Be When I Grow Up

I’m sure I’m behind on this one, but this is who I want to be when I grow up. No, I take that back. I don’t know her personally; there’s a slim chance she’s actually horrible. Unlikely, though, as evidenced by this perfect split maxi set. Billowy, colorful, chic, trendy, feminine, all in one? Unreal. Give your eyes an early Christmas gift, and visit Wendy’s Lookbook.

3. Camera Straps that Say, “I’ll Bake You Stuff (and Post It On my Blog)”

As some of you might remember, O and I are coming up on our actual year anniversary, and we’ll be buying one another predetermined electronics, because that’s what romance is really about. I picked out my digital Canon Rebel and am awaiting it very impatiently, as evidenced by my browsing of unbearably cute camera straps at Bloom Theory Straps. If this doesn’t say, “Food and Style Blogger”, I don’t know what does. What’s your favorite? I can’t get enough of Moonshine – so dramatic.

4. Avoiding Salmonella

This is one of those things that’s so simple you want to beat yourself over the head for not realizing it earlier.. yet it’s so useful! I always have a rampant supply of small metal bowls in my kitchen for chopped herbs, salt, etc., yet had never thought to section out a bit just for seasoning meat. You don’t have to worry about cross-contamination or washing your hands so many times they start to crack open. Check out Big Girls Small Kitchen – a killer food blog – for more.

 5. Less Crappy DIY Manicures

Ah, the DIY manicure. How many times have I had to use pencils to wriggle my pants down to go to the bathroom, because it takes that long for my nails to dry? Yet I simply can’t find the time (read = money) to get regular manicures. What’s a girl to do? Read a million blogs, of course. Olivia Palermo offers the solution to this first-world problem: ice water. Dip your tips into a bowl of pre-prepared ice water after letting the polish set for a minute. Keep them there for a few minutes, and you’re good to go. Check out more here.

What are you up to this weekend? Football on? Looking to enjoy the weather? Do tell!

Thanks Rebecca! I’ll be doing a piece on Tuesday all about trends you can take from fall to next spring, and then I’ll be doing a post on all those items.. but under $55! I know you can appreciate that :)

Love your striped maxi dress, by the way!
